This program is funded by grants from the Kentucky Humanities Council, The
Kentucky Historical Society, The Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial
Commission, Saint Catherine College and the Springfield-Washington County
Chamber of Commerce. It also
has been endorsed by the National Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
In honor of the Bicentennial of the Two Hundreth birthday of President
Abraham Lincoln, Springfield is honored to present
"A Meeting of the Minds...
The Presidents of Mount Rushmore Speak."
This will be the first time these four Presidents, represented by
first person interpreters, have come together to discuss, compare and share
their lives, their presidential terms of office and their personal beliefs
as statesmen and private citizens.
The format for the programs will be a news conference and questions to the
Presidents will be submitted by the audience. Sunday, March ninth programs
will be moderated by David Hawpe and Al Cross. Monday, March tenth
programs will be moderated, Bill Goodman of KET and Kathy L. Nicholes, a Historical Consultant from Louisville and curator of the
Lincoln exhibits at Farmington Historic Home.
Historical consultants will be on hand at all programs and all questions
submitted to the Presidents will be subject to accuracy and appropriateness.
First person historical interpretations bring make history come alive again
and provide access to people have been long deceased. These Presidents
are represented by men who will educated you about their lives and the times
in which they lived.
Abraham Lincoln, as interpreted by Jim Getty from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Getty comes to us as a noted Lincoln historian who recreates our
sixteenth president with a dept and understanding of the complexity of the
unique leader. Mr Getty appears throughout the United States as Abraham
Lincoln in concerts and school, from theater to television. Since 1978 he
has portrayed Lincoln and has appeared across the country including historic
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the Library of
Congress, The Lincoln Group of Washington, D.C., Cornell University, The
National Theater in Washington, and The Reagan Presidential Library. He has
also
conducted workshops helping participants analyze the challenges with

Thomas Jefferson travels to Kentucky on March 9 and 10, 2008 from his home in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Mr Barker has portrayed Thomas Jefferson for over
20 years. He has appeared as Mr. Jefferson in Colonial Williamsburg since
1993, and assists in the development of Jefferson programs for the Colonial
Williamsburg Foundation.
Mr. Barker' s passion for Jefferson reaches back to his youth and he enjoys researching the American world Jefferson knew with an interest in the role the man played and continues to play in our American identity. Bill Barker
has appeared throughout America and in numerous foreign countries as Mr.
Jefferson.
He was in Washington County in October 2005 for speaking
engagements at Central Kentucky Youth Academy and at Washington
County Elementary School. He will represent President Jefferson in the "American Experience" on June 14, 2008 as part of the Lincoln-Hanks Wedding
Celebration.

George Washington comes to life through Dean Mallisa from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Mallisa makes General Washington come alive and will provide you with
access to one of America's greatest presidents. Mr. Malissa's collaboration
with respected scholar and the foremost historical interpreter of George
Washington, Bill Sommerfield, resulted in Mr. Malissa portraying the younger
Washington when he was Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.
Malissa has been honored to be the second actor in our nation's history to
portray Washington at Mount Vernon. Mr. Masissa's appearances have been
nationwide schools and universities to television a numerous government
agencies. Malissa will give you a REAL look at this incredible, courageous,
resourceful and very human American patriot that most Americans know very
little about.
Dean Mallisa was in Washington County on June 3, 2006 as part of the
"American Experience" during the Lincoln Hanks Wedding Celebration. He will
return for the Wedding Celebration on June 14, 2008 as part of the same
Celebration.

Theodore Roosevelt, as portrayed by James Foote from Sea Cliff, New York, has been interpreting
Theodore Roosevelt for over the last twenty five years. He offers tours and
interpretation of Roosevelt at Sagamore Hill, the Victorian home where TR
and his family lived for over thirty years. He has traveled the country as
Roosevelt and when he is not traveling volunteers at Sagamore Hill. James'
high pitched voice and inexhaustible source of information about his
colorful hero promises you a remarkable inside look at this 26th President
and the man. Roosevelt was the latest Chief Executive among the
Presidents on Mount Rushmore and James Foote will certainly bring his
insight and opinions of those who had come before him.
